Gobions Work Party Sunday 25th April 2004

What a wonderful day!

We had a full team out today and managed to re-cover several yards of path on the central north section of the woods. Thanks to our Bobcat and the trusty Benford Dump Truck, we were able to lay about 2.5 tonnes of roadstone onto terram along the path. For those who may not know, terram is a water filter membrane which allows rain water to run through and stops the roadstone from simply sinking into the mud.

Next week we are planning to finish our work on the Brazier plantation, cutting back the sycamores and elder to allow the mower in to keep down the competition from the indigenous species.

We saw some cowslips this morning - it's been a long time since we saw any in the West Fields. Please let us know of anything you see along your walks. You can contact me on gobions_woodland_trust@hotmail.com or i.aitken@ntlworld.com

Happy walking

Gobions Work Party Sunday 18th April 2004

A rare occurrence of rain on a Sunday morning meant that there was no workparty yesterday. Also family commitments meant that there was no workparty on Easter Sunday either.

A lot to catch up on next week.

Gobions Workparty Sunday 4th April 2004

I'm back from my wanderings, and I'm pleased to see that the team have made good progress clearing the Brazier plantation (South Path) of sycamore seedlings. We should now be able to get the mower in there and keep the undergrowth down and give the newer trees a chance to grow.

This week we installed a new bench (East Side) near the old brick bridge. This will be used for dog plaques as the existing one nearby at the canal is getting rather full. Our thanks to the Dawson family for donating the bench.
